Why is the telephone keypad different from calculators??

The numeric keypad of keyboard or calculators have completely different way of organising keys than Touch pad telephones. That makes you ponder why would one or other do that? Its understandable that as calculators were discovered earlier they have set one pattern of arranging numbers. (Which was followed by keyboard manufactures for numeric keypad). But why does telephone manufacturing companies decided to reverse the arrangement of numbers? Here is why...

My answer: It is a big secret that has been kept under covers by fanatic followers of both sides (Telephone & calculators).  Blaise Pascal invented calculator and with that started an amazing cult which was believed and followed by special people and countries throughtout the world. He called it CalCKult (Read Cal-cee-cult)(meaning: Followers of calculator cult). This cult is ultra secret and believes in democracy.  It believes that no one person is above the group of people...... Stumped???

Let me explain. The followers of CalCKult believed that no 1 person is bigger than 2 and no 2 people are bigger than 3 and no 3 people are bigger than 4. Hence, they organised numbers that way. CalCKult follows down to up sequence of numbers where in 1 is at lowermost level and 9 at the uppermost level. Same way in democracy lesser numbers always left behind and more numbers always wins in democracy. There were many great believers of CalCKult. For privacy reasons i will not name them. But you can be sure that almost everybody who advocated democracy was follower of CalCKult. About 90% of world population follows democracry (Source: Wikipedia)

Phonatics (meaning: Phone fanatics) are mild in comparison to CalCKults.  Some of the people in CalCKult did not believe in democracy so they started there own sect and they called themselves Phonatics. Phonatics are people who believe in power of 1 and then 2 and then so on. They believe that 1 who is superior to everybody has all the power in world and as the numbers increase there are more chances of mistakes. 1 (the superior one) has the vision to rule the world and everybody should follow him. Classic Phonatic case was Herr Hitler. One can say they are very much aligned with fascism. When phonatics first broke out it started to take hold of more and more countries but after the victory of allies in world war II they became almost non existent. Given herewith is the map which shows the hold of democracy in world. (Blue part is democracy)

In this world every person is either believer of CalCKult or is a phonatics follower. Some people follow both according to their convenience and some people choose to follow either one of them according to given situation. A side note here, Other than this two there is also numbers in keyboard above letters which is in one line representing that either one or more, everybody and everything is equal. One can say that it aligns with the theory of communism.

Although with this many differences all of them have one thing in common. The master of all, the great zero has same position in both CalCKult and Phonatics. This is because Zero is a power multiplier and both the cults respect that. Zero can make or destroy anything.

Other answer: Conspiracy theories abound, but the explanation for this imponderable reinforces one of the great beliefs of imponderability: when in doubt, almost any man-mad phenomenon can be explained by tradition, inertia or both. One theory is that phone companies intentionally reversed the calculator configuration so that people who were already fast at operating calculators would slow down enough to allow the signals of the phone to register. It’s a clever theory, but it isn’t true. Both, touch tone phone and all transistor calculators were made available to the general public in early 1960s. And both of them inherited their configurations directly from their earlier prototypes. Before 1964, calculators were mechanical machines and huge ones at that and numbers were organised in such a manner. Subsequently it followed in smaller calculators. As of touch tone phones it also took hint from there predecessors rotary phones. In rotary phones 1 came at top because to give pulse of 1 minimum effort and time was required and to give pulse of 0 maximum effort and time was required. Also some phone company did research and found out that this configuration helped eliminate dialing errors. When AT&T contemplated design of their keypad, they called several calculator companies hoping to share the research that led them to opposite configuration. Much to their disappointment, AT&T discovered that the calculator companies had conducted no research at all…..

And there goes the great imponderable. What next????   Let me think about it..  I will come back with new Imponderable. Mean while if you find any imponderable worth digging please pass on to me..  Till next time. Ciao…
